The Rev. Dr. Raymond Gotko

 Pianist, Arranger, Composer. Carillonneur, Bell Ringer

 

Raymond Gotko received his BFA and MFA in piano performance from the University of Georgia. His PhD is from the Florida State University, where his primary work was in music theory. He was was invited to returned to UGA to teach after receiving his PhD. At the University of Georgia, as a tenured professor, he taught music theory, secondary piano, and orchestration and was a frequent arranger  for the Mens’Glee Club, various choral organization, and the annual Christmas Celebration for chorus and orchestra at the coliseum at the university. In 1987 he left the university to pursue an Master of Divinity at the School of Theology in Sewanee where his time was divided between religious studies as a student and faculty duties as an instructor in piano performance. In 1999 he was ordained to a priest in the Episcopal Church and served several parishes in Georgia. Dr. Gotko has also served as a church musician and organist. After retiring to Sewanee he took on the duties of carillonneur in Shapard Tower and instructor in bell ringing in Breslin Tower. Dr. Gotko continues to arrange and compose for the carillon and performs each Sunday after services in All Saints’ Chapel and at university functions. He also serves as the Ringing Master in Breslin Tower.
