Callie is a native Mississippian and a member of the class of 2008 at the University of the South.  After graduating from Sewanee, she earned a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Mississippi. She served as Sociology Instructor at the University of Memphis before returning to the University of Mississippi to work as Sociology Instructor and Academic Assistant to the Chair.  Deeply concerned about the environmental and social justice implications of food and farming systems,  the classes and meaningful relationships Callie had with religion professors at Sewanee taught her how to incorporate her strongest beliefs into her life’s work—no matter what that may be.

Callie is married to Russell Casteel, Director of Cedar Crest Camp in Lyles, TN.
