Greetings from the University and the Sewanee Police Department. We look forward to seeing you on the Mountain soon.

We’re writing to ask for your assistance to ensure that all students return safely and in compliance with University policy and state and federal laws. Each year, the University reviews its policies and makes necessary adjustments and improvements. This message serves as a reminder of expectations and notification of key changes.

The University parking policy remains much the same. Students must register their vehicles for the 2010-21 year by September 09, 2020. Fines and penalties have been simplified and changes can be found at: In general, the parking rules allow students to park in close proximity to their residence halls during the business week hours and enjoy more parking flexibility after hours and on the weekends.

Safety Advisory Team

The University and the Sewanee Police Department are creating a new Safety Advisory Team and are currently seeking applicants to serve and help launch this pilot effort. Interested students can complete a short application online here. The team’s purpose is to support the police department’s efforts in creating a safe and healthy learning and work environment for students, faculty, staff, community members, and visitors by providing feedback on existing policies, safety resources, and most importantly by bringing concerns to the University’s attention by way of the police department. For more information, visit

Most returning students have downloaded the mobile safety app, LiveSafe. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, please do. This application allows you to communicate with emergency services and allows the University to alert you to safety and security concerns. It is the University’s primary method of safety and emergency communications. Please download the free app from Google Play or the App Store.

Thank you for your cooperation.
