Originally from the Washington DC Metro area. Professor Wright holds a B.A. in Music Theory & Composition from McDaniel College, an M.A. in Jazz Studies (arranging) from the University of North Texas, and an MFA (media composition) from The Vermont College of Fine Arts.
As an active and in demand musician, Professor Wright plays local and national venues with the Kash Wright Trio and as a sideman for various artists. The Kash Wright Trio has released three albums so far (https://www.prakashwright.com/kash-wright-trio). Known for an impeccable sense of swing, tasteful arrangements, and bold original compositions, Prakash is an absolute pleasure to listen to. As an arranger, his arrangement of the jazz standard "I Thought About You" appears on the album Triunity by the Eric Byrd Trio (www.ericbyrdtrio.com).
Professor Wright joined the faculty of the Department of Music at The University of The South in 2011. Professor Wright teaches courses in music theory, applied jazz piano, jazz improvisation, the history of gospel music, the history of jazz, and directs the University Gospel Choir, "Sewanee Praise".
