Nicholas Beasley

Was a history major and is the author of Christian Ritual and the Creation of British Slave Societies, 1650-1780 (University of Georgia Press, 2009).

Tyler Blackwell

After graduating from the University of Chicago's Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Tyler moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the Department of State as a Foreign Affairs Officer. He works on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Office of the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, focusing on the political and diplomatic efforts to get the Israelis and Palestinians back to direct negotiations.

Abbey Christman

A self-professed Anglophile, Abbey focused on British History while at Sewanee. After graduation, Abbey went to Middle Tennessee State University where she received a M.A. in Public History/Historic Preservation.

Robert Crewdson

Robert left Sewanee to enter the Master’s program in the Department of History at the College of William and Mary. After completing the coursework for his Master’s degree in history, he entered the University of Virginia Law School in the Fall of 1984, where he served on the board of the Journal of Law Politics.

Steve Greenwood

Steve Greenwood is the Museum Curator of the Wells Fargo History Museum in Oregon – one of nine museums throughout the U. S. Steve has over twenty-two years of work experience in the fields of education and public history.

William Anthony Hay

 

William Anthony Hay is an associate professor of history at Mississippi State University and a senior fellow with the Philadelphia-based Foreign Policy Research Institute (www.fpri.org). A specialist in British history and international relations, Hay earned an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.

Caroline Howe

Is a Policy Advisor for North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Charles Israel

Is an associate professor and chair of the Department of History at Auburn University, where he teaches courses in American cultural and intellectual history, including the history and religion of the American South.

Alden Knowlton

Alden has been working as a Political Associate at Sutter's Mill Fund Raising & Strategy since June, 2008.

Tom Macfie

Tom Macfie serves as University Chaplain at Sewanee.

Eliza McCaslin Pope

Eliza McCaslin Pope graduated from St. Catherine's School and the University of the South with a B.A. in history. In recognition of her academic achievement and leadership, she was inducted into the Order of Gownsmen while at Sewanee.

Bryan Reynolds

Brian Reynolds C’90 is Creative Director for the Maryland-based company Big Huge Games, where he additionally served as CEO from 2000 to 2008. Reynolds helped create the popular historical video games Colonization and Civilization II.

Emily Senefeld

Following graduation, Emily served for a year as research associate for the Sewanee Sesquicentennial History Project, co-authoring the book Ecce Quam Bonum: A Pictorial History of the University of the South. In 2006, she interned at the National Museum of American History. Emily is now pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Virginia, specializing in 20th century American cultural history.

Roger Sisson

Roger Sisson C’85: After Sewanee, Roger received a law degree from the University of Virginia, where he was an editor of the Virginia Law Review. Since 1988, he has practiced law in Nashville, first with the firm of Boult, Cummings, Conners & Berry, then, since 1994, with Genesco Inc., a New York Stock Exchange-listed retailer and wholesaler of shoes and accessories, where he is currently Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

Michelle Tonelli

After graduation interned for Senator Bill Nelson (D, FL) then was an assistant campaign manager for Former State Representative Sandra Murman (R, FL). Tonelli attended law school at New York Law School in New York City, graduated in May 2009 magna cum laude and recently passed the New York State Bar Examination. Tonelli began working as an Honors Program Attorney for the Department of Homeland Security in September 2009.

 

Elizabeth Anderson Worden

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Anderson Worden is an assistant professor of international education at American University in Washington, DC. As a history major at Sewanee, she was intrigued by questions about how history is interpreted and reinterpreted in public spaces, like museums.
