Most of Tom's adult life has been spent in education and the church. In the nineteen eighties, he helped run a boys' camp in Maine, taught at a small boarding school in New England and worked in college admissions. Since becoming an Episcopal priest in 1989, he served two congregations in middle Tennessee before becoming chaplain in 2006.
