During grad school, Abbey interned with English Heritage in Yorkshire. Her first job took her to Minneapolis, working as an architectural historian for a historical consulting company. In 2002, Abbey moved to London in order to attend the Architectural Association School of Architecture, obtaining a M.A. in Histories and Theories of Architecture. Abbey has been in the Western U.S. since 2005, working as the survey coordinator for Colorado Preservation, Inc. Her job has included locating all the surviving New Deal projects in Eastern Colorado, exploring private ranchlands in search of abandoned homestead sites, and producing a documentary on efforts to preserve Colorado’s historic school buildings. Two Sewanee students have completed summer internships working as part of Abbey’s survey team.
