International and global studies at Sewanee stretches far beyond the gates. Involving 50 faculty members from 15 departments across the college, including its own core IGS faculty, the program spans disciplinary and thematic boundaries. The rapid pace and complex nature of our world requires dexterity to navigate. At Sewanee, you will study the ever-changing issues of political, economic, and cultural forces that characterize the world today. You'll work collaboratively and independently, focusing on topics and regions that will promote an enhanced understanding of distinct perspectives and their value.

The study of politics is the study of power in society—who has it, who doesn't, how it is distributed, and why. We ask the big questions: What is a just society? How do we hold those in power accountable? Why do some democracies thrive, while others fail? Politics majors critically engage with competing values and interests that guide and orient politics. Students learn about concepts, theories, and principles that deal with the nature, purpose, and characteristics of government and political change, which they apply in the analysis of politics.

Your first official act as a Sewanee student is to sign the Honor Code and pledge to live honorably. In that spirit, we introduce the Sewanee Pledge. Our promise to you.

• We pledge—to help Sewanee graduates secure good jobs and spots at top graduate programs by providing funding for a summer internship or research fellowship.
• We pledge—to help Sewanee graduates find their place in an increasingly interconnected world by providing you with access to a semester-long study-abroad program at no additional tuition cost.
• We pledge—that you will graduate in four consecutive years (with one major). If you do not, Sewanee will provide up to one additional year of study tuition-free.
