English at Sewanee

When you study English at Sewanee, you will be part of a truly storied program. Our vibrant range of courses and our generous and engaging faculty will guide your exploration of literature from Ancient Greek epic to the contemporary African novel. At the center of our practice is a concern with form—that is, what makes literature different from other kinds of writing and communication? Professors and students share in these explorations: They inspire classroom discussions, creative projects, and undergraduate research.

Sewanee Athletics

At Sewanee, students participate in intercollegiate, club, and intramural sports. And the Domain, our 13,000-acre playground, offers almost unlimited access to outdoor sports like hiking, biking, climbing, caving, trail running, and more. Sewanee fields 24 intercollegiate varsity teams, is a member of the NCAA Division III, and competes in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). Over 30 percent of the student body competes at the varsity level.

Sewanee provides funding for an approved summer internship or research fellowship, a semester-long study abroad opportunity at no additional tuition cost, and the ability to graduate with one major in four years. Of course, you will have to do your part. If you meet Sewanee’s academic and social expectations, these opportunities will be provided.
