Dear Sewanee Family,

“Sewanee is an extraordinary place with a future of boundless potential.”

This sentiment, which I shared on the occasion of my election as vice-chancellor in January, reflects my unwavering belief in the special quality of the Sewanee experience. When I consider the University’s tremendous potential, I also give thanks for you, the community of engaged families who enable us to meet our goals and to continuously aim higher on behalf of our remarkable students, your gifted and extraordinary children.

I am confident in Sewanee’s ability to provide a transformative experience, and I am equally certain that our progress depends on the generous support of our devoted alumni, families, and friends. It takes all of us working together to propel Sewanee ever forward.

Your steadfast support is the cornerstone of our mission and will empower Sewanee as we write the next chapter in our story. Our focus remains resolute:

  • Placing our students’ success and well-being at the heart of everything we do.
  • Thinking anew about our core academic mission and how we can better prepare our students to thrive as citizen-leaders.
  • Creating a more inclusive Sewanee, where open and honest discussions are the norm, and all voices are heard and respected.
  • Harnessing the full potential of our unique 13,000-acre Domain as a space for community-building, learning, recreation and reflection.

Phoebe and I appreciate the outpouring of affection and well wishes we have received since our return to the Mountain and especially during the extraordinary Installation Celebration.

Many of you have asked, “How can I help?” The answer is simple: Show your support of Sewanee in your local community. Help us recruit students and assist graduates in their careers. And, make your best gift, helping provide the essential financial support that makes the Sewanee experience possible. Your gift today will help make our shared vision a reality.

Gifts from parents and families are a vote of confidence in our program and mission and demonstrate your appreciation for the ways in which your child is growing and flourishing on the Mountain. Last year, 31% of Sewanee families supported the Sewanee Parents Fund, which helps cover student scholarships and other annual needs. We seek to double that percentage—and your gift can move the needle.

Again, thank you for everything you do to fuel Sewanee’s success, including sharing your most valuable asset: your child. It’s a privilege to serve and strengthen our community with you.

Warm regards,

Rob Pearigen, C’76
Vice-Chancellor and President
