Our mission

The University of the South is committed to the development of the whole person through a liberal arts education of the highest quality. In support of the University’s purpose, the Center for Teaching exists to encourage, promote, and celebrate teaching excellence among our faculty.

The Center for Teaching strives to provide time and space for collegial conversations and critical reflections about pedagogy, opportunities for faculty development, and access to resources on effective teaching and learning for faculty at all levels and career stages.

To fulfill its mission, the Center for Teaching provides programs on best teaching practices, competitive grants for innovative teaching, support for pedagogical collaboration among the various members of the community, and opportunities to form mentor relationships.
