charles perry travel award

The Charles Perry Travel Award, named in recognition of longtime History faculty member, Charles Perry, provides funding for transportation and living expenses for College of Arts and Sciences faculty who wish to research or study outside the United States, with a preference for travel to Europe. Funds may be used during sabbaticals or during University breaks.

Smith Experiential Learning Fund

The Smith Experiential Learning Fund was established through a donor's generous gift in honor of Dr. Gerald Smith, Professor Emeritus of Religion. The purpose of the fund is to foster community engagement, place-based study in the local area, field work, and hands-on learning so that students will gain insight into how Appalachian people have encountered the region physically, intellectually, and spiritually. Awards will be restricted to projects that are in the humanities and humanistic social sciences or are interdisciplinary with strong input from humanities. The field work must be conducted in the Appalachian region. Individuals and groups (including interdisciplinary groups that have at least one member from the arts and humanities) are encouraged to apply. Individuals may request up to $2,000 in funding, and groups may request up to $7,500.
