What is Text Mining?

Text mining is a research method that uses computational and analytical tools to evaluate a large text corpus (such as books, articles, websites, social media posts, ect.). These tools make texts searchable and identify patters or trends that are not easily discoverable with the human eye. They are not meant to replace close reading.

What is Text Visualization?

Visualizations help researchers better understand the patterns found through computational text mining methods and share those findings with others. These visualizations include graphs, word clouds, network diagrams, and more.

University Tools

The tools featured on this website are supported the University of the South, have a free version, and do not require any coding knowledge.

Our text mining and visualization tools are split into two different sections: tools that work with pre-existing corpus (such as google books, HathiTrust, and predetermined news sites) and tools where users upload their own corpus.
