Kartik Misra received his B.A.(Honors) in Economics from the University of Delhi, and an M.Sc. in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His fields of specialization include development economics, applied microeconomics and political economy.
Kartik’s research examines the role of historical institutions, economic inequality, and concentration of political power on the choice and impact of government policies in developing countries. His work analyzes how imperfect land and labor markets impact wage bargaining and employment opportunities in the rural economy. Kartik has received a research fellowship from the American Institute of Indian Studies for primary data collection in India. Prior to joining the Economics Department at Sewanee, he taught at the department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park. His current research involves estimating the impact of air pollution on workers' labor supply decisions in India.
Kartik’s teaching interests include development economics, microeconomics, and applied econometrics.
