Q. When will I receive my 1098-T?

A. The IRS Form 1098-T will be mailed to the student’s home address by January 31st in compliance with the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA97).

Q. What information is provided on the 1098-T?

A. Statements provided will reflect payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses in Box 1 for the previous tax year. Scholarships and grants applied to these expenses are listed in box 5.

Q. Can I access my 1098-T online?

A. Students may access all their 1098-T statements online for previous tax years through Banner Self Service at https://ssbsso.sewanee.edu:8443/ssomanager/c/SSB. Statements may be located by selecting the following: Student Services, Student Account, Tax Notifications and Enter the Tax Year.

Q. Who should I call for tax-related questions about the 1098-T?

A. Students should refer tax related questions to their own tax counsel, or they may visit the Internal Revenue Website at https://www.irs.gov.

Q. Who can I call for other questions related to the 1098-T?

A. For assistance with questions related to your University account, please contact the Student Accounts Office at 931-598-1347.

Q. Why is Box 2 empty for 2018?

A. Due to a change in institutional reporting requirements under federal law, we will report payments received in Box 1 instead of charges billed in Box 2 as in the years prior to 2018.
