Electric Vehicle Charging

How to get started:

1. Download the ChargePoint app and create an account.

2. Join the Fac/Staff or Student group to get a $0.10/kWh discount at the Snowden chargers! *Please note, it may take up to 5 business days to become an approved member of the discounted rate group.*

3. In the app, go to Map to search for chargers in Sewanee, TN, and choose an available port. 

4. Tap "Start Charge" on your app, and then listen for a beep and a click indicating the connector is unlocked.

5. Plug in and charge!

6. When you're finished charging, please promptly move your car so that the next person can charge. If you stay more than 30 minutes after your session is complete, you will be charged an overstay fee by the hour.

FAQs

Can I check to see if there is a port available before moving my car? Yes! On the ChargePoint app, you're able to see if there are available ports.

All the spots are occupied! Is there a way to find out when one is available and get in line? Yes! ChargePoint has a waitlist feature! You can reserve the next available spot and snooze your session for later if you can't move your car at that moment to allow the next person on the waitlist to charge. We have to pay for EV charging now?! Yes, as utility costs are rising, we are working to cover our electrical costs and EV infrastructure investments. Our goals with this project are to provide more charging on campus, a better driver experience, and use enhanced analytics to understand campus EV charging demand and energy usage to inform future decisions about the expansion of this project. Any revenue collected that exceeds our utility, infrastructure, and management costs will be added to the Green Revolving Fund to reinvest in sustainable and energy-saving projects across campus. Currently, the price is $0.50/kWh, and if you join the Fac/Staff or Student discounted rate group (see below), it will be $0.10/kWh off the public rate at the Snowden chargers. Rates may change based on fluctuating utility costs.

How do I get the discounted Fac/Staff/Student rate? Request to join the Fac/Staff or Student group to get a $0.10/kWh discount at the Snowden chargers! You'll be asked to submit your Sewanee email address for verification. *Please note, it may take up to 5 business days to become an approved member of the discounted rate group.* You'll only need to do this once, and we will verify members each year.

How fast are the chargers? All chargers are Level II. Currently, the Snowden ports are running at 7.7kW. The Inn's are running at 12kW.  Please know we are working with ChargePoint to try to optimize the speed of the Snowden charger.
