Summer Orientation happens online to ensure all new students and their families feel prepared for their start at Sewanee.

The summer Orientation program is divided into three sections - LEARN at Sewanee, LIVE at Sewanee, and EXPERIENCE Sewanee. These themes will guide you through preparing for everything from course registration to move in and more.

LEARN at Sewanee

The first part of summer Orientation is focused on helping you make early decisions about what you would like to study while at Sewanee. You will be able to learn more about how academic advising and coaching works, as well as explore many of the departments supporting your academic success.

LIVE at Sewanee

Up next is information about living at Sewanee including Residential Life, Sewanee Dining, and the Wellness Commons. We will share information about why students enjoy living here just as much as they like learning here!

EXPERIENCE Sewanee

Getting involved on campus is critical to your success (and a lot of fun!) This section will help you to explore the opportunities to join student organizations, participate in campus events and programs, and the final preparations for moving to the Domain.

Summer Orientation Structure

The New Student Orientation team has designed summer Orientation in order to make sure everyone has the opportunity to participate. All of the information including the schedule of live webinars and office hours will be shared on Engage, Sewanee's platform for getting involved and connected on campus. You can expect each section to include:

  • Live Sessions - We will host webinars - one for students and one for families - about each topic. These webinars are an opportunity to hear from Sewanee faculty, staff, and students about what to expect, as well as an opportunity to ask any questions you have. All live sessions will be recorded for those who cannot attend in person.
  • Resource Information - Departments will provide resources online for you to review about their services and how they work with students. These can be found in the New Student Orientation organization on Engage.
  • Office Hours - Throughout the summer, different departments including the Wellness Commons and Student Accessibility Services will host virtual office hours for students and families to ask questions. Take advantage of these virtual office hours to talk through your specific needs.
