WHAT

The fifteen-day Spanish language program will allow high school students (rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors) to immerse themselves in the target language and advance further along their path to proficiency. In addition to classroom learning, students will be able to use the target language they learn in the classroom while exploring the 13,000 acres of natural beauty surrounding the university. We encourage everyone from novice to advanced language level learners to join the camp. Our teachers and counselors scaffold the language learning environments so that all students maintain immersion, but not submersion.

Most mornings students will engage in immersive language learning in the classroom. In the afternoon, students will continue to develop their language skills through authentic learning activities (e.g. hiking, caving, crafting, etc.) while maintaining as much of an immersive environment as possible. The theme of “Environmental Stewardship” will provide ample opportunities for communication about food, geography, and culture; learning about the cultures and environments of Spanish-speaking communities; connecting to art and history. There will also be opportunities for connecting with local Spanish-speaking communities and University faculty. By the end of the program, students will have advanced not only their language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, but an increased confidence in themselves as learners and global citizens.

The cost per student for Sewanee's Spanish Language Camp is $2600. This will cover all tuition, lodging, meals, and transportation associated with the program once students arrive on campus. Scholarships are available, so please mention your interest in applying for financial aid in your application.

WHEN

The 2025 Sewanee Spanish Language Camp is June 15 - June 29, 2025. Students will live in a residence hall on campus for the entire time, with the possibility of an overnight camping trip. During downtime, campers have access to all of the amenities of the University including the library, dining hall, fitness center, computer labs, and classrooms.

Campers should plan on arriving to campus between noon and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15th, and then depart campus by noon on Sunday, June 29th. For more information on traveling to campus, please visit here
