Garrett Heatherly received his B.A. in Psychology from The University of the South (2016) and his M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University (2019), with an emphasis in child, adolescent, and family therapy. Prior to teaching, he worked in various settings providing individual and family therapy.

Professor Heatherly has utilized a Humanistic Existential theoretical approach in his therapeutic work, emphasizing client-centered approaches and focusing on client strengths and values. His approaches incorporate aspects of Positive Psychology and trauma-informed care. He carries these skills into the academic setting, embracing a highly student-centered approach to teaching. Professor Heatherly aims to help students better understand the impacts of culture, environment, and trauma on human behavior, and to recognize the areas in which individuals have the ability to shift their perspective on their lives and current events.
