Internships, Graduate Programs, and Careers

We are committed to advising students in identifying and choosing successful internship, graduate school, and career opportunities. As part of The Sewanee Pledge, the University of the South guarantees all students funding for a summer internship or research fellowship.

In addition to our faculty members, who serve as excellent resources, networking connections, and advisers, the Sewanee Career Center also provides services to assist students in finding internships, graduate programs, and career opportunities.

Internships

Internships provide students opportunities to explore their interests in meaningful ways with real-word applications. Students participate in internships during the academic year and/or over the summer both domestically and abroad.

Sewanee Career Center provides resources to identify, apply for, and secure funding for internships with companies across the country and around the world.

Graduate School

The Economics Department prepares students for graduate-level study through rigorous coursework, high-level research opportunities, and individual advising/guidance as they make plans for continued study. Our students leave Sewanee with the skills and experience they need for success in graduate school and beyond.

In recent years, our alumni have been admitted to many of the nation's top Ph.D. programs, including those at University of California-Los Angeles, University of Virginia, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Michigan State University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, University of Colorado-Boulder, University of California-Santa Barbara, University of Arizona, University of Houston, University of Minnesota, and University of Wyoming. They have earned MBAs at Duke University, Stanford University, Wake Forest University and UNC-Chapel Hill, among others, and master's degrees in accounting at Vanderbilt University.

Students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics or Finance may benefit from pursuing a pre-doc or research assistantship prior to their application to graduate school. Resources for finding such opportunities include:
