Andrea Del Balso | Director | PDSO & RO

Andrea received her B.A. in Public Relations from Mississippi State University, and her M.Ed. from the University of Georgia. Since 2007, she has worked in higher education, both in student affairs and international education. She is committed to expanding students’ cultural horizons, fostering student growth and development, and empowering others to become well-rounded global citizens. 

Marcus Murphy, C'07 | Associate Director | DSO

After graduating from Sewanee in 2007, Marcus worked and studied in Qingdao, China, where he received a Masters of Arts in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Qingdao University. His primary areas of focus are supporting international students, advising study away students, teaching Mandarin, running the Sewanee Chinese Language Camp, and supporting other global initiatives on campus. 

Travis Parker | International Student & Scholar Advisor | DSO & ARO

Travis received his B.A. in Foreign Languages from the University of North Alabama and his M.A. in Humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas. Since 2009, Travis has worked in the field of international higher education in a variety of fashions, seeking to foster pathways of success for international students in the United States. Travis' main duties are focused on F-1 and J-1 immigration advising and being the primary point of contact within the university for matters relating to Sewanee's international populations.

 

Sarah Marhevsky | Study Abroad Advisor

Sarah graduated from Wake Forest University with a double major in English and German. After earning a Master of Arts in Teaching English (MAT) from the University of Chicago, she taught high school English for many years, greatly valuing the relationship-building aspect of her job. Now she’s putting her love for students, language, and culture to good use, advising students on how to find their place in the world.

Georgia Hewitt | Office Coordinator

Georgia Hewitt received her B.S. in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University before studying at Nashville School of Law. She is passionate about community engagement and is an active member of many local non-profit organizations. Georgia joined The Office of Global Citizenship in the spring of 2022 and enjoys working with the team to fulfill its mission of cultivating a global community of engaged citizens.

Abby Colbert | Assistant Counsel for Global Affairs | ARO

Abby is an attorney admitted to practice in Tennessee and Massachusetts. She received her J.D. from the Boston University School of Law, her M.A. in International Relations from Boston University, and her B.A. in Art History from Haverford College. She is happy to use her many years of experience in non-profit immigration law to support Sewanee’s international community and global initiatives. Abby works primarily with faculty and staff immigration, student immigration, and legal affairs. She is also an Instructor of Politics.
