SPO Basics

The Student Post Office or SPO provides a broad range of mail and packaging services to faculty, staff, and students. The SPO is located in the basement of the Bishops Common. Below are some important facts about the SPO operations as well as information about how to send and receive mail and packages.

your Address

All mail and packages should be addressed:

YOUR NAME
The University of the South
c/o Student Post Office
Bishops Common Building
735 University Ave.
Sewanee, TN 37383

Receiving Packages
Notification

The SPO has installed package lockers for your convenience. When you receive a package, the SPO will send you an email that will direct you to the appropriate locker and include a one-time numeric code or bar code that will allow you to open the locker and retrieve your package. If the lockers are full or your package is too large, your email will indicate that your package’s location is behind the counter and you need to pick your package up at the window. You will receive a reminder email message about your package should you fail to retrieve it within 3 business days.

PACKAGE PICKUP

Use the numeric code or barcode from your notification to open the locker and retrieve your package. The SPO staff will be happy to assist you; this is a new system. If your notification email indicates that you need to pick your package up at the SPO window, you must present your University ID or another valid picture ID when picking up the package. Using your University ID will expedite the pickup process. If you are sick or otherwise unable to retrieve your package on a timely basis, you may have a fellow student pick up your package provided that they present the SPO staff with a printed copy of your package notification email and have valid ID themselves.

Package Return

Please check your email regularly for package delivery notices and pick up your package as soon as possible. Packages may be returned to sender if not picked up within 5 business days. Your student account will be responsible for any shipping cost associated with returning any package addressed to you.

Sending Packages

Packages can be sent through the SPO via UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service. The SPO offers stamps for sale. The SPO offers mail and package metering services as well.

The SPO does not provide package wrapping services, but does offer for sale a limited selection of packaging supplies such as packing tape, padded envelopes, small boxes, etc. The SPO staff will not address your package for you. The sender must clearly provide this information on your package or for all UPS, FedEx or USPS labels as applicable.

Track your Package

Customs Forms

Handwritten customs forms are no longer accepted at the Sewanee Post office.  All international packages that weight 16 oz. or more will need a customs form.  Regular size #10 envelopes and large envelopes will not need a customs form.

Use the link below to create your form.  Once completed, it will generate 3 copies to print.  Print and attach all 3 copies before sending to the Mail Center, at which time the correct postage will be applied and packages mailed out.
