The 2004 SCSS conference will take place in Roanoke, Virginia on March 18-20, 2004. We will be convening at the Hotel Roanoke, a beautifully renovated facility in the heart of downtown Roanoke. Recently listed to the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel has a pedestrian walkway to the downtown shopping and dining district, and is within a short drive of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We have reserved a block of rooms at $119 (plus tax) / night single occupancy and $129 (plus tax) / night double occupancy.

The local arrangements committee consists of: Amy Nelson (History/Virginia Tech), Tom Ewing (History/Virginia Tech), and Nyusya Milman (Foreign Languages and literatures/ Virginia Tech). Our banquet speaker is James Billington, the Librarian of Congress. Details about the Beach Party will
be announced on the conference website.

The Roanoke airport is serviced by Delta, US Airways, United, and Northwest. The hotel has a complimentary airport shuttle. Roanoke is located on I-81, within four hours driving distance from Washington, D.C. and Chapel Hill, and six hours from Pittsburgh.
