SCSS Richmond Conference 1999 :

THIRTY-SEVENTH ANNUAL MEETING

Southern Conference on Slavic Studies
Hosted by the University of Richmond
Richmond, VA
March 25-27, 1999

ANNUAL CONFERENCE PLANNED FOR RICHMOND

The 1999 Southern Conference on Slavic Studies is returning to Richmond, VA after being away too long (we last met there in 1984). The conference will take place in the fourth week of March, from the 25th through the 27th, which should bring us to Richmond just as the azaleas are starting to bloom. The headquarters hotel will be the Omni, in downtown Richmond, adjacent to "The Slip," a couple of square blocks filled with good restaurants and convenient watering holes.

The prices for a double or a single are $94 per night ($104 for a triple and $114 for a quad); rooms are being held from Wednesday through Saturday nights. The current plans call for the banquet to be held on the University of Richmond campus, with transportation provided from curb to curb. The Saturday afternoon/evening beach party will be, if all goes well, a ride on the historic James River, aboard the Annabel Lee, with music provided by the Academy of St. Boatwright on the Lake, the renowned faculty "trad jazz" band of the University of Richmond. We hope to see you all there for a memorable conference.

PANEL AND PAPER PROPOSALS DUE DECEMBER 1

Paper and panel proposals for the thirty-seventh annual conference to be held in Richmond are due by December 1, 1998. While individual papers will be considered, complete panel proposals are preferred. Include your email address and the email addresses of the other panelists. Send your proposal to the chair of the Program Committee: Anthony Anemone, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, College of William and Mary, P.O. Box 8795, Williamsburg, VA 23187; tel. 757-221-3636 (W); 221-8183 (H); e-mail: aaanem@facstaff.wm.edu

Please note that it is the responsibility of those submitting proposals to help identify a substitute in the event that unforeseen circumstances prevent the would-be presenter from attending the conference. Panel chairs are asked to keep in touch with the panelists to prevent problems.
All panel members are expected to register and pay their fees in advance of the conference. On-site registration will be more expensive than pre-registration. All presenters must be members of SCSS.
