Sewanee, The University of the South Residential Life looks forward to welcoming our new and returning residents for the Easter 2025 semester!

On-campus residents, both new and returning, will arrive for move-in on Saturday, January 11th, from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and Monday, January 13th, from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M

Only new students, students with new room assignments, or students returning from abroad will need to check in. 

General Student Move-In
  • Returning Students that lived on campus in the Advent Term: The student’s ID will be activated and turned on to access their building starting on January 11th, and will be able to move straight into your room.
  • Students Moving In for the Easter term for the first time in the academic year: If you are a new student to Sewanee or a returning student moving in for the first time for the academic year, your check-in will occur at the Office of Residential Life, which is located in the Bishop Commons. During the check-in process the student will pick up their room key. 

Returning Students will use their ID Card from the previous year. If a student is in need of a new card they can request one here.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Are Students able to bring their own Move-In helpers?
    • A: Each student that is moving in is permitted to bring move-in helpers. There is not a limit on helpers.
  • Will carts be available to help move in?
    • A: The university does not provide any carts for moving in. It is the responsibility of the student moving in to clean the cart before and after use.
  • Where do I park when moving into my assigned building?
    • A: Students are able to park in any available parking spaces near their assigned building to unload.
  • Where do I park after I have unloaded my vehicle at my assigned building?
    • A: Please park at any available student parking lot on campus. To locate parking lots on campus please go here.
  • What happens if I arrive after hours to move in?
    • A: Unless approved at least 48 hours ahead of time by the Residential Life Department you will be asked to come back the following day to move-in during the Move-In time window.
  • How do I find out my housing assignment and roommate information before moving in?
    • A: For all new students, your housing assignment will be emailed to your Sewanee email account at the beginning of January. You can also log into the housing portal to see the information here
  • What if I am not able to move in during the scheduled move in period before the start of class?
  • What if I need to arrive on campus early before general move-in starts?
    • If a student needs to arrive early prior to general move in please contact the Office of Residential Life at reslife@sewanee.edu. Staff will provide next steps, and a daily may apply to move in early. 
  • When will Dining Services open?
    • A: McClurg Dining will open on Saturday, January 11th at 5 P.M.
