Dr. Stephanie L. Batkie

Dr. Batkie, also an Associate Teaching Professor in English and the Director of Writing Across the Curriculum, has been the Director of the Writing Center since 2016. Prior to coming to Sewanee, she founded a directed instruction program for students at The University of Montevallo, where she also headed the Graduate Program in English.

2023-2024 Tutors

We are delighted to introduce our tutors for the 2023-2024 academic year. Each of our tutors was selected by faculty for their writing and tutoring skills, and they represent some of the strongest students from across the College. If you are interested in learning more about the process of becoming a writing tutor or about their training, you can find more information here. 

 

	Mohamed Abdelsalam	Mohamed is a junior, and he has a special interest in Chemistry, Math, and Physics.
	Beatrix Adams	Beatrix is a sophomore and she has special interest in English, Geology, and German.
	Molly Almon	Molly is a senior, and she has a special interest in Biology, English, and Creative Writing. Outside of the Writing Center, she loves caving and salamanders.
	Ben Claessens	Ben in a senior, and he has special interests in Classics, English, and Music.
	Jose Diaz	Jose is a senior, and he has special interest in English and Creative Writing.
	Andrea Essenburg	Andrea is a junior and she has a special interest in English and Creative Writing. In her free time, she enjoys writing and fencing.
	Mary Courtney Finn	Mary Courtney is a sophomore and has a special interest in Psychology and Chemistry.
	Meridith Frazee	Meridith is a senior, and they have special interest in English and Natural Resources. Outside of the Writing Center, they can be found practicing change ringing in Breslin Tower.
	Angela Gier	Angela is a junior, and she has a special interest in Environmental Studies, Music, Spanish, and English.
	Peyton Hassinger	Peyton is a sophomore and she has special interests in English, Psychology, and Philosophy. She is an avid reader and enjoys recreational running and watching video essays on obscure and unimportant topics.
	Emma Grace Hendrickson	Emma Grace is a junior and has a special interest in Philosophy, English, Latin, and Business.
	Sebastian Hobday	Sebastian is a senior, and they have special interest in English and Medieval Studies.
	Lillian Holloway	Lillian is a junior, and she has special interest in Politics and Philosophy.
	Natalie Huckabay	Natalie is a junior and has a special interest in English and Classics.
	Hunter-Nicole Jolley	Hunter-Nicole is a sophomore and has a special interest in History and Spanish.
	Maggie Lorenzen	Maggie is a senior, and she has special interest in Psychology, English, and Classics. Outside of class and the Writing Center, she loves running, lemonade, and Dolly Parton.
	Laura-Ann Moore	L-A is a junior, and she has special interest in French and Biology. She enjoys dangerous sports like horseback riding and downhill skiing, as well as safe activities like sewing and singing.
	Grace Parkhill	Grace is a senior, and she has special interest in Anthropology, Geology, and English. She loves reading, rocks, and traveling!
	Joey Pascarella	Joey is a junior, and he has special interest in Biology, Religion, and History.
	Jackson Riggs	Jackson is a sophomore and he has special interest in English, Classics, and History. He enjoys singing with the University Choir, playing friendly games of tennis, and spending time outdoors.
	Hannah Rosser	Hannah is a junior, and she has special interest in Biology, English, and Spanish. She also loves running and anything involving the outdoors!
	Augusta Spessard	Augusta is junior and has special interest in English and American Studies. Outside of the Writing Center, she enjoys hiking, running, and exploring the Domain.
	Louise Stilwell	Louise is a junior, and she has special interest in English, Classics, and the Humanities.
	Maggie Tilyou	Maggie is a senior, and she has special interest in IGS, Economics, English, and Business. An enthusiastic hiker, she completed the Perimeter Trail three times during her first semester at Sewanee.
	Taylor Tunstall	Taylor is a junior, and she has special interest in classical languages, poetry, and ancient aesthetics.
	Finn Vickrey	Finn is a junior and he has special interest in English, Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences. Outside of the Writing Center you can find them hiking the Domain or practicing fencing.
	Lila Williams	Lila is a junior and has special interest in English, French, and IGS.
	Sparrow Womack	Sparrow is a sophomore and they have a special interest in English, Creative Writing, Music, and Environmental Studies. You can find them playing the violin in the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra, reading at Morgan's Steep, or exploring the surrounding trails.
