Mort Kondracke conversation

On September 14 at noon in the Mary Sue Cushman Room, the Office of Civic Engagement’s “Yea, Sewanee Votes!” program, the Center for Speaking & Listening, and the Sewanee Purple will host a lunch conversation with award winning journalist Morton Kondracke entitled “Restoring the Political Center.”

Panelists will include Fleming Smith, C'19, editor-in-chief of the Sewanee PurpleSean O'Rourke, director of the Center for Speaking & Listening; and Jim Peterman, director of the Office of Civic Engagement.

Seating is limited. Guests are asked to RSVP for lunch by Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. by emailing Kai Koopman (kdkoopma@sewanee.edu).

Kondracke’s career in journalism centered on reporting and political commentary in a variety of contexts. In addition to his early journalism career at the New RepublicNewsweek, and National Public Radio, his later career included being executive editor and columnist for the non-partisan Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call, and commentator on Fox’s "Special Report with Brit Hume" and "Special Report with Bret Baier."

His recent commentaries regularly published in Real Clear Politics, focus on his support of practices and policies that would restore an American political center and journalist practices to overcome political polarization.
