“The Business of College Sports: A Changing Landscape”
4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024
Convocation Hall

College sports is a multibillion-dollar industry fueled by commercialization, media rights, and technological advances. In 2022-23, nine schools brought in revenues over $200 million, and the NCAA recorded $1.28 billion in revenue. Boo Corrigan Director of Athletics at NC State University will share his perspective on leading a major Division I program in the midst of rapid change in the business, including conference realignment, media bidding competitions, player NIL (Name, Image, Likeness), and emerging labor movements among college athletes.

Corrigan is the Babson Center’s Bryan Viewpoints Speaker for the 2024 Advent semester. While on campus, he will meet with students and deliver a lecture, “The Business of College Sports: A Changing Landscape,” at 4:30 p.m., Wed., Sept. 25, in Convocation Hall. All are welcome to attend this event co-sponsored by the Department of Athletics.

Arriving at NC State in April 2019, Corrigan has achieved many successes in the growth of the University’s athletic programs and has been recognized on the national stage. He has been named Athletic Director of the Year by two different organizations, in 2017 and 2022, and was selected as a member and the chairman of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee in 2021 for a three-year term.

Corrigan kicked off his career at Navy as Associate Athletic Director and served in the same role at Notre Dame and Duke. He hit his stride at Army as Athletic Director, setting fundraising records, expanding varsity sports, updating facilities, and championing academic achievements at West Point.

He received a B.A. in economics from the University of Notre Dame and earned a master’s degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Athletics runs in the family. His father, Gene, was the Athletic Director at the University of Virginia for a decade before becoming the Commissioner of the ACC. The sports legacy continues with multiple family members who have played, coached, or worked in athletic administrations.

With a lifetime immersed in sports, Corrigan is primed to navigate the ever-evolving business of college sports and the many factors affecting its financial future—legal challenges, media contracts, conference shake-ups, and lucrative marketing deals. Join us for a compelling discussion with Boo Corrigan about the complex business of college athletics.
