The Club's Mission
Green’s View Capital, the undergrad investment club at The University of the South, brings the Street to the mountaintop. Our mission is to demystify the world of investing and provide liberal arts students of various academic disciplines the opportunity to gain exposure to the financial markets. We believe the liberal arts education allows for a more holistic view of the market which subsequently facilitates our ability to make more informed investment decisions. The primary purpose of our investments is to expand the portfolio with the intention of beating the market.
With capital injections from the university endowment totaling $3,200,000, we employ a long-only equity strategy to manage a portfolio consisting of companies found strictly within the S&P 500. Each member of the club belongs to one of seven S&P sectors with the intent to focus research and analysis on their respective industries. After investment proposals receive approval from the executive board, officers and their teams develop stock pitches providing buy/sell recommendations for the club to vote upon. A stock pitch consists of a target price based on DCF and public comparable valuation techniques in addition to more qualitative measures including, but not limited to, macroeconomic and industry developments.
