St. Luke’s Chapel

Senior Voice Recital
Alice Belshaw, soprano

Dr. Kenneth Miller, organ

Kaiwen Zheng, cello

Join Alice Belshaw, soprano (C’22), and collaborators as they offer a recital of exquisite music by women of the Renaissance and Baroque eras.

A music major on the music history track, Alice aims to reintroduce works that have been marginalized due to historical gender bias in musicology. In collaboration with Dr. Kenneth Miller and Kaiwen Zheng, this performance includes music by composers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, much of which has been only rarely performed for hundreds of years. The recital features composers ranging from Franscesca Caccini to Barbara Strozzi, finishing with Filia’s powerful aria and chorus from Giacomo Carissimi’s tragic oratorio,
Jephte.

Alice is a student of Dr. Kerry Ginger and a member of the University Choir and School of Theology Schola Cantorum.
