Course Description:
Explore the world of premodern scandals with Professor Bill Engel next semester. Together we will dive deeply into threats of excommunication, exile, & ostracization; examine public outrage, gossip, heresy, & the shocking downfalls of figures both public & private.
We will engage with premodern moral outrage! Together we will be asking: "How do representations of scandal in literaray works from the 1380s-1630s allow readers to engage with--or perhaps, indulge in--moral outrage & virtue signaling? And cui bono? What role have scandals always played in "polite" society?
This course has no quizzes and no exams! This is a student-centered small seminar and counts for the GMWI general education credit.
Keep this on your list for Registration weekend this fall! For more information on this course, contact Professor Bill Engel.
