Internships and Other Opportunities in Computer Science
There are multiple sources for internships and summer research at Sewanee; see the Sewanee Career Readiness internship pages for complete lists.
SPECIFIC TO COMPUTER SCIENCE:
- The McGriff-Bruton Internship in Mathematics and Computer Science is offered each year to fund students working on a project with a professor in our department.
- The Fund for Innovative Teaching and Learning is a campus-wide, competitive fund for collaborative research with one or more professors, possibly spanning departments.
For each, the professor(s) must be willing to supervise a project over the summer. Both pay over $300/week for the duration. FITL projects are expected to be student-initiated; both require an application by the beginning of March so check the Career services link for details.
IN THE SURROUNDING AREA:
National corporations with summer internships: Google, Amazon, Apple, Epix, others can be found with a directed web search. For example: internships.com, computersciencedegreehub
Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. From the website: "Are you ready for a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) research experience with Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s prestigious scientists and engineers? Are you looking for an internship opportunity with a research or technical focus? If you are an undergraduate student at a college or university, with an interest in STEM, ORNL may be the place for you!"
2026 INTERNSHIPS
Fermilab:
Fermilab is the host laboratory in the U.S. that facilitates participation of hundreds of U.S. physicists from more than fifty institutions in the CMS experiment at CERN. Fermilab CMS plays a leading role in detector construction and operations, computing and software, and data analysis.
DATA SCIENCE FOR SOCIAL GOOD FELLOWSHIPS:
Want to do AI Machine Learning, Data Science, and care about having a social impact, fairness, and equity? Apply to join us this summer for DSSG at Carnegie Mellon University.
Applications for the 2020 Data Science for Social Good Fellowships at Carnegie Mellon University are now open! Apply to be a fellow, mentor, project manager, or project partner.
