Please see below for a general outline of the First Year Experience schedule. In August, all students will receive a personalized schedule of events based on their individual Explore track and Encounter course.

Note: all FYE activities listed below are required for all students unless otherwise noted.

Thursday, Aug. 20

Time Activity Description
8:30 a.m. to noon Arrival, Check-in, and Move-in Arrive during your chosen move-in time slot, check in for FYE and pick up your room key, and move into your residence hall room. Note: Some students may have already arrived and moved in with their varsity athletic team, for international student orientation, or during a selected move-in time slot on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. First Embark Class Meeting First meeting of your Embark class
3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. EQB Pin Ceremony Vice-Chancellor Pearigen and Dean Campbell welcome new students and their families in the spirit of EQB (Ecce Quam Bonum—our University motto and the highest aspiration for our community).
4:30 p.m. to late Sewanee Explore begins Your FYE leaders will take you to begin your first day of Explore activities

Introduction to the Domain

Morning sessions include a presentation on the Honor Code, Code of Conduct, and living with integrity, as well as an introduction to how to safely engage with the many opportunities available to you on the Domain. The personalized schedule you receive in August will tell you which specific sessions you will attend and their start and end times.

9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Class Photo A picture of the Class of 2030 will be taken in front of All Saints’ Chapel.
9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. Induction and Signing of the Honor Code Induction of new students to the University and personal commitment to our community of honor.
11 a.m. to noon Activities Fair Meet representatives from campus student organizations and services, learn about their group activities, and sign up for what interests you.

Your afternoon will include a required meeting with you academic advisor—you will sign up for an individual time slot with your advisor in August.

Other optional afternoon activities include informational sessions about the pre-professional programs (pre-health, pre-law, pre-engineering, education, and business), auditions for Sewanee music ensembles, and open houses at various campus offices.
