The Sewanee Herbarium (acronym: UOS) in the Biology Department at the University of the South contains a collection of over 9000 plant specimens and serves as a center for the study of plant diversity on the Cumberland Plateau. The Sewanee Herbarium has catalogued over 1,120 species of vascular plants on Sewanee's 13,000 acre campus as part the Domain Flora Project. Professor Jon Evans serves as Director of the Sewanee Herbarium. In 2016, Dr. Evans and colleagues published the Vascular Flora of the University of the South which subsequently won the Windler Prize in Systematics from the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society.
The Herbarium regularly hosts hikes and art workshops. It supports student research in field botany at Sewanee through the funding of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate fellowships. The Herbarium documents plant invasions, monitors endangered plants on the Domain, and supports plant conservation on the Cumberland Plateau.
