What: Students have the opportunity to receive financial support for an internship in one of the following locations: Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. From whale watching in Indonesia to banking in Singapore, the opportunities are endless. This opportunity is made available to students thanks to a generous grant from the Freeman Foundation and then the support of internships through Sewanee alumni donors.
Why: Sewanee considers internships a valuable and integral part of a field of study -- an important way to gain insight into a career field, obtain valuable professional experience, and develop new skills. Internships in Asia offer valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth in an area of the world that is reshaping global commerce.

Further information:
-
Upon returning to Sewanee, Freeman Foundation award recipients will be required to present their experience at a minimum of two fall events. In addition to a traditional presentation for a live audience, students will have the option to share a culminating project that could include a digital story presentation, a poster presentation, or a podcast. Participants will also be encouraged to participate in the study away fair, internship fairs, and other promotional opportunities on campus.
-
Students are encouraged to network and secure an internship on their own. Marcus Murphy (mtmurphy@sewanee.edu) is happy to meet with students to explore their interests and options. Career Readiness also has a wealth of resources and more information can be found here. Students are not required to have secured an internship by the application due date, however, the process of networking, researching, connecting, and attempting to find an internship will strengthen your application.
-
Please do not pay any deposits until you are notified of your status for internship funding. Sewanee is not responsible and will not be able to assist you with recovering funds if you are not rewarded funding.
-
Non-US citizens are eligible to apply; however, students must intern in countries outside of their country of origin.
-
If students are unable to secure an internship on their own and are selected to participate in the program, students will have the option to work with a third-party provider to be placed in an internship.
