The Biehl Social Science Research Fellowship is a funding opportunity for independent social science research study, conducted during the summer, in a country where the primary language is not English. Students must present their research in a final paper and through a 10 minute presentation to the Sewanee community in the Advent semester.
Application Deadline: March 7
Eligibility: Rising sophomore, juniors, or seniors who plan to return to campus following the completion of their research project.
Award: Up to $5000 to a maximum of 5 fellows
Duration of Fellowship: Minimum of 4 weeks

Timeline for Response
Email notifications will be sent after the advisory committee has met. The committee may respond in one of three ways: (a) accept the proposal, (b) reject the proposal, or (c) request that the applicant revise and resubmit the proposal.
How did the Biehl Fellowship start?
In 1991, Carl Biehl, C’32, made a donation that began the Biehl International Research Fellowship, due to his deep interest in international affairs.
