The University of the South: Sewanee is a University Partner Member of the national American Association of University Women (AAUW).

        

AAUW's mission is to advance equity for women and girls by championing success in higher education — a vital pathway to economic security. For over 140 years, AAUW has led the fight for gender equity through advocacy, funding, and collective action.

       
Benefits of College/University Partner Membership in AAUW:
  •  $3,000,000 in scholarships is available nationally.

  • 1,000 Community Action grants.

  • Funding to send students to the National Leadership Conference in May/June.

         

Benefits for students specifically:
  • Free affiliate membership as a Sewanee student.

  • Access to publications of AAUW at aauw.org.

  • Campus Action Grants that are AAUW Mission-based (presently Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics emphasis)

  • Participate in Smart Salary Negotiation Workshops (because salary discrimination begins here).

  • Campaign College AAUW trains women to run for Student Senate

  • Membership continues for one year after graduation.
