Career Readiness + Student Success Names Faculty Fellows for Purpose and Career
Career Readiness + Student Success has announced the recipients of its Faculty Fellowship for Purpose and Career. The selected faculty are (pictured from left): Associate Professor of Economics Kartik Misra, Assistant Professor of Psychology Katy Morgan, and Assistant Professor of Anthropology Emily Sharp.
Misra, Morgan, and Sharp comprise the second cohort of faculty fellows for purpose and career since the fellowship’s inception in 2023. Over the course of a two-year term, the fellows will partner with Career Readiness + Student Success as they provide leadership and create opportunities for engaging students in exploration of purpose and career. Through integrating reflection into courses and departmental programs, coordinating professional development activities to share best practices with colleagues, and other innovations, the fellows will seek to support students as they navigate the path from Sewanee’s curriculum to their careers.
In recent years, collaboration between College faculty and Career Readiness + Student Success staff has led to the forming of faculty learning communities, the incorporation of vocational reflection into comprehensive exams or capstone projects, and the development of new courses in which students can consider purpose and career pathways within the context of their major area of study. The University also received a NetVUE Professional Development Award to further support student engagement with vocational purpose.
“Our students flourish when they connect their learning with an emerging sense of purpose. Our faculty—and many staff—already walk alongside students as quiet but powerful mentors, helping them explore who they are, what they care about, and how they might serve,” says Elizabeth Wilson, director of student formation. “I’m grateful to partner with Emily, Kartik, and Katy as they bring their fresh and uplifting energy and insight to help us create even more new ways and spaces where students can reflect deeply, imagine boldly, and grow into lives that feel meaningful.”
