The University of the South is the only institute of higher education founded and governed by dioceses of the Episcopal Church. Currently the bishops, clergy, and laity of more than two-dozen dioceses form the core of the University's Board of Trustees providing support and relationships that make Sewanee such a unique and special place.

In the heart of Sewanee's campus, All Saints' Chapel is an outward and visible sign of God's beloved community, where belonging and equity intersect. The Sewanee community engages with the life of the Chapel through worship, formation in our catechumenate program, the University Choir, interfaith support, chaplains in residence, and other programs and opportunities led by our chaplaincy team.
In the Anglican tradition of forming disciples through a common life of prayer, study, and service, the seminary offers residential education surrounded by God’s creation in a rural, natural setting. The seminary’s rigorous curriculum is grounded in tradition, while also emphasizing development of the creative capacity required to take the core activities of the Church—which is to gather, hear the Word, and share the sacraments—and adapt them to the changing demands of our time.
Ecce Quam Bonum. EQB. It's the University motto, and you will hear it often. Behold how good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! This spirit guides our living and learning community and describes our expectations for one another.
EfM is a unique parish-based program of theological education designed to help laypersons become theologically informed and articulate. In small-group settings, participants study scripture, history, and theology; and read and reflect on how God is calling them to work in the world.
SUMMA brings together high school students (entering grades 9–12) from across the country. Year after year, campers tell us that SUMMA marked a pivotal point in their lives by sparking their intellectual curiosity, preparing them for college, cultivating an appreciation for the art of rhetoric, and strengthening their appreciation for Christian faith traditions.
The Center for Religion and Environment fosters conversation around the increasingly rich intersections of religious belief and environmental awareness and care.
There's nothing like summer in Sewanee. While most of the University’s students leave campus for a well-deserved break during the warm months, visitors of all ages come to the Mountain to relax, to explore our 13,000 acres of trails, lakes, and forests, and to take advantage of the many opportunities offered from late May to mid-August.
