We couldn’t be any more excited that Sewanee’s outreach trips are back in full swing!  Please see the brief descriptions below for our spring break opportunities. 

Service in Appalachia:

Want to get away from the Domain but get to know and work alongside our Cumberland Plateau community? Then you’ll want to take part in our spring break trip to Grundy County, Tennessee to work with Mountain T.O.P., a home repair program. 

Service in New York City:

Interested in healthcare and in particular about serving the needs of our sisters and brothers living with HIV/AIDS?  Then you’ll want to take part in our outreach program to New York, where we will work with community partners- such as God’s Love We Deliver, who serve clients facing challenges around food insecurity and homelessness while overcoming community barriers and stigmas attached to HIV/AIDS.  All community partners for this trip are not finalized.

Service in Quito, Ecuador:

Ready to put your faith into action?  Our work with Education = Hope is rooted in our Episcopal identity; however, any and all students (regardless of faith or no faith) are welcome and encouraged to apply.  E=H supports holistic educational opportunities to children, with the aim to break the cycle of poverty and impact future generations.

Community collaboration in Selma, AL:

Eager to be a part of a new community partnership in a place at the heart of theVoting & Civil Rights Movement in the U.S.?  Then you’ll want to join us for our second annual outreach trip to Selma, AL.  This trip is a part of a multifaceted curricular and co-curricular program and partnership with community organizations in Selma.  

Environmental rebuilding and Hurricane Katrina relief work in New Orleans, LA:

Want to help restore and rebuild wetlands in coastal Louisiana as well as work with New Orleans communities to rebuild after hurricanes?  Interested in learning about the intersection of racial and environmental injustices and their impact on community well-being?  Then you’ll want to be a part of our outreach program in New Orleans where we work with organizations such as lowernine.org as well as Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.

Supporting environment education in Costa Rica (CIVC/GLBL 200: Field Studies in Global Community Engagement: Food Systems in Costa Rica*:

Interested in learning about food systems, sustainability, organic farming, and environmental justice?  If so, then you’ll love our partnership with Community Collaborations International, who partner with local farmers in rural Costa Rica to build more sustainable and empowered local communities.

*This experience is a credit-bearing course pending final approval through the Curriculum and Academic Policy Committee.
