Flora Walker, APRN

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Flora has been working as a nurse practitioner since 2015, specializing primarily in women’s health. Flora grew up in Sewanee and earned her bachelor’s degree from Millsaps College and her master’s degree from Vanderbilt University. Before returning to the mountain, Flora spent ten years practicing in the Chattanooga area. She also helped found a medical spa, which strengthened her interest in leadership, teamwork, and building collaborative, patient-centered care. Flora is grateful to be serving the community that helped shape her. Outside of work, she enjoys being physically active and spending time in the woods and with her family.

Mary Beth McClain, NP-C

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Mary Beth began her nursing career over 25 years ago as a registered nurse. With a strong passion for caring for others, she obtained her BSN from Oakland University and her MSN from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Mary Beth is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Her career interests include women and children’s health, as well as health promotion and disease management across the lifespan. Outside of work, Mary Beth enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Brandon, and their two children.

Brooke Moody, FNP-BC

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Brooke joined the Wellness Center staff in 2022. Her professional interests include mental health concerns, neurodivergence, women's health, and minor surgical procedures. Brooke graduated with her BSN from Samford University in 2007 and earned her MSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2011. She is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She loves spending time on the lake with her husband and four children. Her other hobbies include reading, knitting, and gardening.

Kurt Rapp, APRN

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Kurt brings over 25 years of nursing and provider experience to the Wellness Commons staff. He has spent most of his career in urgent and primary care with a few years working in emergency care, pediatrics, and aesthetics. Originally from Memphis, Kurt attended UNC-Chapel Hill and Rhodes College (don’t hold it against him), before finishing his degrees in communications and nursing at the University of Memphis. A self-described health and science nerd, you may get more information than you want when asking about how to stay alive and well!

Kurt moved to Sewanee from Franklin, TN, where he lived for 17 years. A music lover and novice (even after 35 years of playing) guitarist, he and his wife are avid concert-goers and plan to see shows at the Caverns for years to come. Thanks to his son, Kurt enjoys rock climbing (mostly indoors with the safety of mats everywhere) and enjoys biking and golfing on the Mountain. 

Shandra "Shay" Keener, MA, AEMT

MEDICAL ASSISTANT AND IMMUNIZATION COMPLIANCE COORDINATOR

Shay has been at the Wellness Center since 2010. Her professional interests include immunizations and wound care. Shay was educated at the Academy of Allied Health in Chattanooga and Chattanooga State Technical College. She earned her AEMT license through the University of the South.

Ashley Dempsey, MA

MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Ashley is a Certified Medical Assistant with over four years of experience supporting patients and providers in fast-paced clinical environments. She is certified in Medical Assistant,  Phlebotomy, and Basic Life Support (BLS), and is skilled in wound care, injections, and specimen collection. Ashley takes pride in creating a welcoming and reassuring experience for every patient she works with. Her strong clinical skills, reliability, and team-first mindset make her an essential part of the care team.  

Kim Bradford, CPB, CPC

PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL BILLER AND CODER

With 35 years of dedicated experience in University Health Services, Kim is a seasoned professional holding certifications in medical billing and coding. Beyond her career, Kim finds joy in spending as much time as possible with her grandkiddos. She also enjoys knitting, camping, kayaking, and college football (Go Vols!). She lives in Winchester with her husband with their cats, Maynard and Elvis, and their one-eyed rescue dog, Winkie.

Evelyn Patton

MEDICAL OFFICE SENIOR PATIENT COORDINATOR

Evelyn joined the Wellness Center staff in 2017. She previously worked for Grundy and Franklin County 911 EMS services. She attended the University of the South EMT program and has been certified as an AEMT since 2005. She has also completed the Business Systems Technology program at the Tennessee Technology Center in McMinville. Evelyn is a long-time resident of Sewanee. She graduated high school from the Sewanee Academy and was even born in the old Emerald Hodgson Hospital, which is now a residence hall on campus!
