Peter W. Gray, University Chaplain

Peter works to meet the spiritual needs of a diverse university community by preaching regularly; leading a talented staff; forming relationships with students, faculty, and staff; and building strategic partnerships across campus. Quiet prayer, hiking, trail running, and music of almost any variety feed his soul.

The Rev. Dr. Melissa M. Hartley, Senior Associate University Chaplain

Melissa oversees all aspects pertaining to worship in All Saints’ Chapel and leads the Catechumenate (our Christian formation process). Melissa’s soul is fed by spending time with her horse each day and going for trail rides on the weekends.

Wallace Benton, Lay Chaplain

Wallace serves the Sewanee community by working with the student leadership of Growing in Grace (our informal, student-led worship service) and walks alongside students through their spiritual lives on campus. His soul is fed by reading, hiking, playing board games with friends, and spending time with his wife and son.

Dr. Geoffrey Harris Ward, University Organist and Choirmaster

Geoffrey develops and oversees the musical life of the Chapel, including leading the University Choir. Dreaming, playing, and being immersed in music with his family feed his soul.

Hannah Gilliam, Administrative Assistant to the University Chaplain

Hannah supports the University Chaplain and her colleagues by meeting the administrative needs of the chapel. Expressing herself through music, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying those special moments when strangers’ pets interact with her feeds her soul.
