"Sewanee Language Camps have been some of the most exciting, immersive, and rewarding programs I’ve taken part in! I arrived at Language Camp knowing very little. I had taken classes only during my freshman year of high school, and I didn’t know anyone I'd be spending the next two weeks of summer with. By the end of the program, I’d continued building on the language skills I learned and the friendships I made—both of which have stayed with me ever since.
I left camp able to hold conversations and order food at McClurg Dining Hall in the target language and also keep up in a bilingual classroom. The language skills I gained were both practical and rewarding, especially for a fun but challenging two weeks. Still, one of my greatest takeaways was the people I met. I’m still in touch with most of them, whether through occasional check-ins, social media, or seeing them regularly on Sewanee’s campus. My counselors, Marin and Christian, have become mentors and guides whom I greatly admire and am lucky to call close friends. Sewanee Language Camp helps you build language proficiency, but the friendships and memories you make will stay with you throughout your time at Sewanee and beyond."

"Chinese camp absolutely altered the trajectory of my life. I remember not knowing what to expect from camp let alone Sewanee. I had come to camp not knowing a lick of Chinese and became more nervous the closer I got to campus. Within those short two weeks, I made some of the best friends of my life, several of whom I still keep in touch with and have visited me at Sewanee as college students. Additionally, I created a strong foundation for Chinese language that would serve me well in my college Chinese courses and would later lead me to guiding a group of 11 college students in China for two weeks the summer before my senior year of college. I am so thankful for this camp that not only pushed me out of my comfort zone when it came to Chinese but also grew me as a person."
