How to participate in Karaoke
Learning Goals:
Preparing for a song is a great opportunity to learn an authentic text closely. When you have mastered your song, you will “own” those words and structures.
Process:
1. Search the following sites for a song you want to sing. You are not to sing along with the singer, but rather to sing alone:
· THE KARAOKE CHANNEL
https://karaoke.stingray.com/browse/songs/nil/all
(Arabic, Chinese,, French, German, Greek, Italian, Spanish)
Click on “Songs” and then filter by language.
· YOU TUBE
Any language on earth (send the link to an instrumental song with lyricst written on the screen)
http://www.karaoke-version.com/karaoke/karaoke.html
(Arabic, French, German, Italian, Spanish) Choose your language on the left-hand menu.
2. Once you’ve found your song, please send the link to Helen Stapleton (hfstaple@sewanee.edu) at the Language Resource Center, and she will purchase it for you from Karaoke Channel or download the video from YouTube. (hfstaple@sewanee.edu X1468). You must do this by October 25, so that she will have time to download and compile a playlist. Only the first 25 entries will be accepted, and it’s first come, first served.
3. You will receive a schedule with a rough estimate of what time you’ll perform. Begin practicing your song well before the event, singing along with the artist and looking at the lyrics. Remember that you should know the melody and words well in order to be able to perform it without another voice in the background.
4. Perform your song at the B.C. Hearth Room on October 27!
