This year the SEI Archaeological Field School divided their time between working on part of the Pinson site (2000 year old Middle Woodland ceremonial complex in Middle TN) and Rebels Rest (19th century home site of founding fathers of the University). The photo shows the field school taking part in PEARL - Pinson Environment and Archaeology Regional Landscape initiative that includes various faculty and students from 5 other institutions.

After a week working in and around Pinson, students spend 5 weeks continuing to learn excavation techniques and how to process artifacts in the lab on the campus of the Univeristy of the South. Their work will make a significant contribution to the research at Rebels Rest while also giving them the opportunity to learn the process of field archaeology on an important site. Sarah C. Sherwood is the instructor, assisted by several other young archaeologists (see "People") and the students receive 6 credit hours as Anth 357: Field School in Archaeology. Partipants this year included students from Sewanee, UT-Knoxville, Bryn Mawr, and Appalachian State Univ.
