The Sewanee Environmental Institute Field School in Archaeology has continued work at Rebel's Rest during the summer of 2016. Students are working with faculty and teaching assistants to learn archaeological method and practice at Rebel's Rest as well as other regional sites. The field school has opened up several new units within the foundations under the left wing of the house in order to thoroughly sample the area and discern features that could possibly predate the Fairbanks Family occupation of the site. Excavations at Rebel's Rest will continue through July 2016.
