The Hippocrates Fellows program is for pre-medical students who want to be challenged both academically and professionally, explore leadership opportunities in medicine, and have a very strong interest in applying to medical school after their 4 years at Sewanee. This program is only a small portion of our larger more encompassing pre-health program offered through the Office of Medical and Health Programs. Students who want to explore multiple pre-health disciplines, or who are not completely sure about their pre-medical path, are encouraged to work with our pre-health program as the Hippocrates Fellows program has a very narrow focus on developing student leaders who ultimately have a passion to attain a MD or DO degree.

Application for COHORT 9

Application - Due April 1, 2025

During our transition to the dual cohort application cycle we have been a bit delayed in the application process for Cohort 9. We are now ready to accept applications for this cohort starting February 15th, with the application due April 1st. Students selected into Cohort 9 will show a strong interest in pursuing a medical degree and show that they are successfully engaged with their academics and extracurricular activities during their first semester at Sewanee. They will enter into the Hippocrates Fellows program with expectations as a second year Fellow.

Moving forward there will be two application cycles for each cohort as we grow the program.

Alpha Cohort 10α

The Alpha Cohort will be able to apply after being admitted to Sewanee and selection will be based on high school accomplishments both in the classroom and beyond, with a strong emphasis on academic and extracurricular success. The first Alpha cohort will be for the 2025 application cycle. The Application deadline is March 15th and the application will be released from the Admissions Office upon acceptance to the University. Those selected for the alpha cohort will have shown a dedication to pursuing a medical degree. These students will start leadership training in their first semester at Sewanee.

Beta Cohort 10β

The Beta Cohort will be able to apply in their first semester at Sewanee. This selection will be to address those students who were perhaps waitlisted for the Alpha Cohort, who once on campus are interested in a more rigorous pre-medical training and support than what is offered through the Office of Medical and Health Programs, and possibly students who were unaware of the early application cycle. Once at Sewanee, pre-health advisors might recommend that certain pre-medical students apply for the Hippocrates Fellowship, as well. Together with the two application cycles we hope to select the top pre-medical students that are interested in a cohort-based program and more structured pre-medical advising and support. Students selected into the Beta Cohort will show a strong interest in pursuing a medical degree and show that they are successfully engaged with their academics and extracurricular activities during their first semester at Sewanee. The application cycle for this cohort will begin in November of 2025, with an application deadline of December 1st.
