Sewanee’s Office of Medical and Health Programs partners closely with Sewanee Career Readiness to provide alumni and interested employers targeted access to bright, motivated students.

For any of the opportunities below, please send a brief email with your interest and contact information to Shanna Abramson at slabrams@sewanee.edu

Network with Students

If you would like to recruit Sewanee students, you can set up a table where students can drop by or we can create a “coffee and conversations” schedule with interested students for your visit. Email your organization’s name and your preferred date and time, and we will help you secure your ideal space.

Participate in the Graduate School Fair

If your institution would like to participate in the annual Graduate and Professional School Fair, reach out for the date and time, and we will help you secure your spot.

Share an Internship Opportunity

If your business or organization has an internship opportunity that you'd like to make available to Sewanee students, we offer options for both paid and unpaid internships.

All internship opportunities, paid and unpaid are advertised to students with one of two labels.

  • ACE (A Career Exploration) internships are positions that you agree to reserve only for Sewanee students.

  • The Sewanee connection internship label lets Sewanee students know that the opportunity is open to a wider pool but that a Sewanee friend or alum may be keeping an eye out for Sewanee applicants who are interested.

  • Both options allow alumni, parents and friends to receive advertising priority in our jobs platform (Handshake) and allow us to highlight key opportunities to our students through email and our on-campus digital boards.

Paid Internship Opportunities

There are no specific requirements for paid internship opportunities, though standard internships tend to run for 6-8 weeks. The internship posting should include a job title and description, location and contact information, a start date, and pay information. Simply email with your interest or the job description and the best way to contact you, and we can follow up with the listing or with further questions.

Unpaid Internship Opportunities

Students who secure unpaid internship opportunities are eligible to apply for a small stipend through our generous donor funds. Funding is meant to cover cost-of-living expenses and should not be considered wage replacement.

In order to help students qualify for funding, consider the following tips:

  • create a full-time internship (32-40 hours/week) that encompasses more than just shadowing and that lasts for 4-8 weeks

  • consider the Sewanee-preferred application deadline of February 15

  • aim to select your preferred applicant before April 1 to ensure Sewanee offices can issue funds to students before they leave campus in May

  • housing does not need to be provided, but students often appreciate advice or leads on housing options when moving to a new area for a short period

Share an Entry-Level Job Opportunity

If your organization has an entry-level job opportunity, we can help by posting your job in a targeted collection on our Handshake platform. Job postings require a job title and description, location and contact information, a start date, and pay information. Simply email with your interest or the job description and the best way to contact you, and we can follow up with the listing or with further questions.

Like internships, entry-level positions will have a Sewanee connection label that lets Sewanee students know that a Sewanee friend or alum may be keeping an eye out for strong Sewanee applicants. These positions receive advertising priority on our jobs platform (Handshake) and allow us to highlight key opportunities to our students through email and our on-campus digital boards.

Conduct Interviews

If your business or organization is interested in conducting interviews after reviewing applications, let us know upon receiving your applications, and we can set up time and space for interviews here at the university.
