Geometric topology and combinatorial group theory served as the basis for her thesis. She enjoys problems from a variety of other fields including statistics, cryptology as well as differential equations and aerodynamics. Catherine writes the monthly Flying Smart column in AOPA Pilot Magazine where she shares the science of flight for a general aviation audience. When not doing math or in the air, you can find her jogging, knitting or reading.
