Dear University Community,

We are happy to let you know that the Board of Regents has appointed Nancy Berner acting vice-chancellor. She will serve in that position with the full authority of the office until the Board of Trustees elects a new vice-chancellor and that person takes office. Nancy assumed the role of vice-chancellor pro tempore in December.

The Board of Regents is grateful that Nancy has again agreed to serve Sewanee in this capacity and continues to have every confidence in her and in the University’s senior leadership team.

Nancy’s appointment as acting vice-chancellor creates a vacancy in the provost’s office. Consequently, Scott Wilson has been appointed acting provost. Currently vice provost for planning and strategic initiatives, Scott has been at Sewanee since 1994 and has chaired both the Politics Department and the Asian Studies Program, served as associate dean, and led the Office of Global Citizenship. As vice provost, he has assisted with the budgeting process, managed institutional planning processes, and overseen several programs.

The process for identifying the University’s 18th vice-chancellor has begun. More information about that process will be provided at the end of February.

Thank you for your continued support for Acting Vice-Chancellor Berner, Acting Provost Wilson, the senior leadership team, and the Board of Regents.

Ecce Quam Bonum,
